FAQ’s.

Candido is a premium range of 35mm colour-negative films made using professional motion-picture emulsions, loaded into DX-coded cartridges and supplied with Candido’s tested exposure and processing recommendations.
The range combines wide exposure latitude, controlled grain, strong highlight retention and a cinematographic tonal scale. Each film is selected for a particular speed, colour balance and set of lighting conditions, giving photographers a clear choice across daylight, tungsten and lower-illumination work.
The underlying emulsions were originally engineered for motion-picture production, and Candido supports both C-41 and ECN-2 as standard processing routes for the finished films.

Each Candido film has been designed for different lighting conditions and creative styles. Visit the individual product pages to compare our films, view sample images, explore technical specifications, and find recommended shooting conditions.

50 can be shot easily from EI 6 to 400.
200T can be shot from EI 25 to 1600.
250 can be shot from EI 31 to 2000.
500T can be shot from EI 62 to 4000.The range is here across all four films to cover all spectrums of shooting, which is why Eastman only make four films. It’s understood that filmmakers know this inside out, and rate their film using the appropriate Exposure Index (EI) accordingly with their lab partners.
-
Yes.
All Candido films are supplied in standard 35mm cartridges and are compatible with all standard 35mm film cameras, including point-and-shoot cameras, SLRs, rangefinders and half-frame cameras.
-
Yes.
All Candido films are DX coded.
DX coding allows compatible cameras to automatically detect the film's ISO rating and configure the correct exposure settings automatically.
If your camera does not support DX coding, simply set the ISO manually.
-
DX (Digital indeX) coding is a coding system printed on the outside of the film cartridge that allows compatible cameras to automatically recognise the film's ISO speed and number of exposures.
This makes loading film quicker while reducing the chance of incorrect ISO settings.

Our Candido 50, 200, 400 and 800 films begin life at Eastman Kodak, and from that point onwards every step is fully accountable. We work with carefully selected converting and production partners across Europe and Asia, with a strict, documented chain of control from master roll to spooling, dating, and distribution.
This traceability means we stand behind every roll we sell — something film from unaccountable channels simply can't offer.
We're also developing new films of our own — more on that soon.
Every Candido product undergoes extensive testing before release to ensure it meets our standards for image quality, consistency and reliability.
-
No. Candido films use Eastman Kodak's latest film structure, in which the old remjet backing has been replaced by a modern anti-halation layer built directly into the emulsion. There's no coating to remove — nothing needs to be stripped or washed off by us or by your lab, no residue, and nothing that can come off in processing.
If you've avoided motion picture film in the past because of remjet — or been turned away by a lab — that era is over. Candido films are clean, lab-safe and processed just like any other colour negative film.
-
Yes. Candido films can be processed in either C-41 or ECN-2 chemistry, allowing photographers to choose the rendering and post-production flexibility that best suits their work.Choose C-41 where a stronger, more immediately defined colour-negative rendering is preferred, with greater contrast, firmer colour separation and less reliance on grading in post. Candido can be processed by any laboratory offering standard C-41 development.
Choose ECN-2 where the priority is a lower-contrast negative, greater separation through the tonal scale and more control over colour and contrast during later grading. For that workflow, use a laboratory that performs genuine 16-bit capture throughout scanning, rather than delivering a lower quality file saved as a 16-bit TIFF.
Liquid Light Lab in the UK has been selected as a specialist Candido processing partner, offering both C-41 and ECN-2 development alongside genuine 16-bit, high-dynamic-range scanning. This gives photographers the choice between a more immediately defined C-41 rendering and an ECN-2 workflow designed to preserve maximum grading flexibility, tonal separation and colour control.
-
Yes. Candido films can be processed at home using either C-41 or ECN-2 chemistry, depending on the rendering and workflow you prefer.
Home-processing kits are available for both processes. Accurate temperature control, consistent agitation, correct chemical mixing and careful timing are essential for repeatable results.
Choose C-41 for a stronger, more immediately defined colour-negative rendering. Choose ECN-2 for a lower-contrast negative with greater flexibility for later colour and contrast grading.

Candido films can be processed in either C-41 or ECN-2 chemistry. The best choice depends on the post-production flexibility you want.
Choose C-41 for a stronger, more immediately defined colour-negative rendering, with greater contrast, firmer colour separation and less reliance on later grading.
Choose ECN-2 for a lower-contrast negative, smoother tonal separation and greater control over colour and contrast during scanning and grading.

Yes.
Candido performs exceptionally well with both natural and artificial light, including on-camera flash, off-camera lighting and studio strobes.
When exposed correctly, flash photography produces beautiful colour, contrast and skin tones across the entire Candido range.
-
Like most colour negative films, Candido rewards generous exposure. When in doubt, give it more light, not less.
Our recommendation is simple: rate the film one stop below box speed — shoot Candido 400 at 200, or Candido 800 at 400 — or if your camera has exposure compensation, set it to +1. This delivers richer colour, finer grain and noticeably better shadow detail, and the extra density is handled effortlessly in development, scanning and printing.
-
Absolutely.
Candido is suitable for photographers of every experience level. Its generous exposure latitude makes it forgiving to shoot while delivering outstanding results for experienced photographers.
-
Yes, but all unprocessed film should be kept in hand luggage and presented separately for a hand inspection wherever possible. Do not place film in checked baggage.
Modern CT scanners can affect unprocessed photographic film at any exposure index, and the effect may increase with repeated scans. Before travelling home, consider using a trusted laboratory in the country you are visiting so the film can be processed locally and does not need to pass through airport security again.
Keep the film in its original packaging and allow extra time at security when requesting a hand check.
-
All Candido films contain 36 exposures, giving you up to 36 photographs per roll depending on your camera.
-
For the highest quality images we recommend:
Expose for the shadows.
Choose a reputable laboratory and request high-quality scans for the best possible results.
Experiment with exposure to discover the look you enjoy most.
Most importantly—get out and enjoy shooting.
